In short: Born from a cloud and a cinnamon roll tail, Cinnamoroll has evolved from a 2001 character named 'Baby Cinnamon' into a massive cultural phenomenon. From his origins in Sanrio's universe to his recent surge in Western popularity, discover the fluffy world of this blue-eyed, flying puppy.

Created in 2001 by Sanrio with designs by Miyuki Okumura, Cinnamoroll began his journey under the name 'Baby Cinnamon.' The name was changed a year later to remedy international trademark registration issues. This white puppy, characterized by his long ears that allow him to fly and a tail resembling a cinnamon roll, lives at Café Cinnamon after falling from the clouds and being rescued by Ms. Anna. He is a male pup with pink cheeks and a penchant for eating. This lovable character first appeared in the manga series Fluffy Fluffy Cinnamoroll.

The character's universe is populated by a diverse cast of friends. These include the energetic Chiffon, the stylish Mocha—who is Cinnamoroll's love interest—and the intelligent, well-bred Espresso. Other key figures include Milk, a baby pup who cannot speak, and the twins Coco and Nuts, who were rescued by Cinnamoroll during a thunderstorm. The lore expanded through side series like Cinnamoangels in 2005 and Lloromannic in 2007. Cappuccino, a laid-back dog with a hearty appetite, is another close companion. Additionally, the unicorn Cornet lives in the sky and was inspired by Osamu Tezuka's work.

Cinnamoroll's influence has only grown over time. While he has appeared in manga and anime films like the 2007 'Cinnamon The Movie' directed by Gisaburō Sugii, his modern relevance is striking. In 2025, a resurgence in popularity led Sanrio to grant Mocha the full name 'Lovelymocha.' By 2026, Cinnamoroll was selected as one of 12 Sanrio characters specifically to be marketed toward Western audiences, proving his enduring appeal across borders. The franchise's reach extends to various media, including the Sanrio Pokoapoko series. His popularity continues to thrive through diverse animated shorts and various video releases.
