Can a high school reunion lie turn into a life-changing family reality?
In short: When Tino Guevara fabricates a life of success to impress former classmates, he never expects his past to catch up with him. A single night from his graduation party resurfaces, revealing he is the father of teenage twins, forcing him into a complex, high-stakes arrangement with a former schoolmate.
Produced by Rosy Ocampo for TelevisaUnivision, Papás por conveniencia explores the chaotic intersection of past secrets and present survival. The story centers on Tino Guevara, a man struggling with unemployment and debt, who encounters Aidé Mosqueda, a former classmate turned successful entrepreneur. Their reunion triggers a revelation: Tino is the father of Aidé's rebellious teenage twins, conceived during a graduation party years prior.
The narrative shifts from a simple reunion to a complex domestic experiment as Tino and his family move in with Aidé. While they initially agree to act as co-parents to solve their respective financial and personal challenges, the household quickly becomes a battleground. Tensions escalate as their children struggle to adjust to the new living situation, and a complicated romance begins to bloom between the two leads, complicating their professional and parental roles.
The plot thickens with the arrival of external threats, including Aidé's ex-husband, Facundo, who hopes to reclaim his former lifestyle, and Guzmán Muriel, a former classmate who hides a predatory agenda. Guzmán, an executive at Aidé's company, attempts to swindle her, forcing Tino into a moral dilemma. He must choose between exposing Guzmán's scheme or protecting his own secrets, which could shatter the fragile family unit he has only just begun to build.
The series, which aired its first season from 21 October 2024 to 9 February 2025, concluded with a second season titled Papás por siempre, running from 13 October 2025 to 1 February 2026. Beyond the drama, the production is notable for its soundtrack, released on 11 October 2024, which features reimagined versions of classic songs from previous children's telenovelas produced by Ocampo, bridging the gap between the show's nostalgic themes and its contemporary narrative.
