From reality TV winner to a complex public narrative
In short: Shalin Bhanot’s rise in Indian television is marked by high-profile victories and significant personal controversy. While he achieved mainstream success as a dance champion and reality finalist, his career has been shadowed by serious allegations of domestic violence and a high-profile divorce that remains a point of public record.
Born into a business family in Jabalpur, Madhya Pradesh, Shalin Bhanot began his professional journey in 2004 as a contestant on MTV's Roadies 2. His early career was defined by a steady presence in Hindi television serials and web shows, including roles in 'Saat Phere: Saloni Ka Safar' and 'Grihasti.' A pivotal moment occurred in 2009 when he participated in the dance reality show Nach Baliye 4 with his then-wife, Dalljiet Kaur.
The couple emerged as winners of the competition, significantly boosting Bhanot's public profile. Despite his professional accolades—which include training under Hollywood acting coach Michelle Danner and reaching the finals of both Khatron Ke Khiladi 14 and Bigg Boss 16—Bhanot’s personal life became a subject of intense scrutiny.
In 2015, Dalljiet Kaur filed for divorce, leveling grave accusations against him. She alleged that Bhanot was violent toward her from the beginning of their marriage, even in the presence of her parents. Her claims included specific instances of domestic violence during her pregnancy and a refusal to support her medical needs. The legal proceedings concluded in 2015 with the couple's divorce. Kaur was granted custody of their son, Jaydon (born in 2014), while Bhanot retained visiting rights. Following these personal challenges, Bhanot continued his television trajectory; notably, he secured the male lead for the Ekta Kapoor-produced show 'Bekaboo' on Colors TV in early 2023 after finishing as a finalist in Bigg Boss 16.
