Can a fake contract lead to real love in this South Korean drama?
In short: The Real Has Come! explores the chaotic intersection of an unmarried pregnant instructor and a wealthy obstetrician. Bound by a deceptive agreement, their lives entwine through romance, pregnancy, and the complexities of childrearing. This 50-episode series offers a deep dive into family dynamics, social expectations, and the unexpected paths to connection.
Premiering on March 25, 2023, on KBS2, The Real Has Come! follows the story of Oh Yeon-doo, a 33-year-old star language instructor, and Gong Tae-kyung, a 34-year-old obstetrician from a prominent chaebol family. The narrative centers on their decision to enter into a false contract, a premise that forces these two disparate individuals to navigate the pressures of pregnancy and parenthood. The series, which concluded on September 10, 2023, spans 50 episodes and delves into the lives of an expansive cast, including the NX Group corporate family and Yeon-doo's own supportive relatives.
The production process faced notable shifts, with actor Ahn Jae-hyun stepping into the lead role following the departure of Kwak Si-yang in December 2022 due to scheduling conflicts. This casting marked a significant return for Ahn, who had been absent from television for three years. Similarly, the series served as a comeback for Baek Jin-hee, who had not appeared in a television drama for four years. The show's development was marked by a teaser poster release in February 2023, building anticipation for its debut.
Viewership for the series saw a notable trajectory, beginning with a 17.7% rating for its premiere episode, which was slightly lower than the preceding KBS weekend drama. By the time the finale aired in September, the show achieved a 22.9% viewership rating. Beyond the central romance, the plot weaves in various subplots, including the struggles of a single father raising his daughter and the intricate power structures within the NX Group. The series remains accessible to international audiences through streaming platforms like Kocowa, Viki, and Viu.
