A Chelsea Flower Show garden finds a permanent home at a London psychiatric center.
In short: Designed by Matt Keightley for the 2018 Chelsea Flower Show, the RHS Feel Good Garden was relocated to the Highgate Mental Health Centre to mark the 70th anniversary of the NHS. This space now provides vital green access to patients and staff in a dense urban environment.
The garden was gifted to the Camden and Islington NHS Foundation Trust following an RHS competition. It is situated at the Highgate Mental Health Centre, one of the Trust's two inpatient psychiatric facilities. In a part of London where green space is scarce, the garden serves as a therapeutic resource for vulnerable adults.
Since its installation, the garden has been accessible daily to approximately 30 adults, with hundreds of additional patients and staff benefiting from the surrounding wards that overlook the site. The Trust continues to collaborate with these individuals to maximize the garden's impact as it matures.
