The NFL's youngest playoff team just hit a historic milestone
In short: With an average roster age of only 25.3, the Green Bay Packers became the youngest team to reach the playoffs in 2024. Yet, despite their youth and a record-breaking win count, they faced a brutal reality check in the postseason.
The 2024 season marked a significant era for the Green Bay Packers, who became the first franchise in NFL history to reach 800 regular-season wins. This milestone was achieved following a Week 2 victory against the Indianapolis Colts. Under head coach Matt LaFleur, the team secured its fifth playoff berth in six seasons, clinching a Wild Card spot after a dominant 34–0 shutout of the New Orleans Saints in Week 16. However, the season was defined by sharp contrasts.
While the Packers enjoyed high-scoring victories—such as a 38–10 blowout against the San Francisco 49ers (their largest margin of victory against that opponent)—they struggled significantly within their own division. The team finished with a dismal 1–5 record against divisional rivals, managed only by an 11th consecutive win over the Chicago Bears, where Karl Brooks blocked a potential game-winning field goal.
The season's narrative shifted dramatically in the postseason. Despite forcing two turnovers deep in Philadelphia territory during their Wild Card matchup, the Packers were held to mere field goals early on. A late interception by Jaire Alexander provided a spark, but an MCL sprain suffered by quarterback Jordan Love during a final drive proved costly. The Eagles eventually secured a 22–10 victory, marking the first time since 2013 that the Packers failed to win their Wild Card round. This exit came despite the team's historic resilience in avoiding an 0–2 start, a streak they currently hold as the longest active in the league.
