Poland secures a dominant second consecutive title in the 2026 VNL
In short: In a high-stakes final held in Ningbo, China, Poland proved their championship pedigree. By defeating the United States in a grueling five-set battle, they secured their third overall Nations League title and continued a remarkable streak of podium finishes, while Slovenia achieved a historic first-ever medal.
Running from 10 June until 2 August 2026, the eighth FIVB Men's Volleyball Nations League ended via an intense final at China's Beilun Gymnasium in Ningbo. Poland emerged victorious in the final, defeating the United States 3–2 to claim their second consecutive and third overall tournament title. This victory further extended Poland's impressive streak of podium finishes in the competition. While Poland celebrated gold, Slovenia secured a milestone by defeating Japan 3–1 in the third-place match. This victory marked Slovenia's first-ever podium finish in the history of the Nations League. On the individual side, Tomasz Fornal was honored as the tournament's Most Valuable Player (MVP), a title selected through a combined voting process involving fans and volleyball experts.
The tournament featured 18 national teams and utilized a complex format. Each team played 12 matches during a pool phase governed by an algorithm. The top eight teams advanced to the knockout stage, which consisted of four quarterfinals, two semi-finals, and the medal matches. A unique rule ensured the host nation, China, received a guaranteed berth in the Finals, provided they finished in the top eight; otherwise, they would enter as the eighth seed.
The competition also saw significant shifts in the roster of participants. Following the 2025 season, the Netherlands were relegated after finishing in last place. They were replaced by Belgium, who entered the tournament as the highest-ranked non-VNL team according to the FIVB World Rankings. To manage the intense schedule, each nation submitted a 30-player roster, from which they selected a match-day lineup of 12 to 14 players for each competition week.
