In short: He didn't even pick up a baseball bat until age 12. Yet, this San Diego native would go on to become one of the most decorated center fielders in Baltimore Orioles history, a five-time All-<0xC2>Star, and a master of defensive precision.

Adam Jones's journey to professional baseball was unconventional. A standout in football and basketball, Jones only began playing baseball in 1997 after attending a Padres game with his stepfather. By the time he graduated from Morse High School in 2003, he was a dominant force as both a pitcher and shortstop, boasting a 2.71 ERA and a .406 batting average during his senior season.

Selected by the Seattle Mariners in the first round of the 2003 MLB draft, Jones initially played as a shortstop and pitcher. However, a strategic shift in 2005 saw the Mariners move him to center field. This transition proved transformative; Jones developed into an elite defender, earning four Gold Glove Awards and becoming a mainstay in the Orioles' lineup after being traded to Baltimore in 2008.

His tenure in Baltimore was defined by both power and leadership. Jones holds several franchise records, including the most games played in center field for the Orioles. His offensive peaks included a 2013 season with 33 home runs and 108 RBIs, and a 2012 campaign where he signed a massive six-year, $85.5 million contract extension. Beyond the statistics, his impact was recognized by his peers when he won the 2015 Marvin Miller Man of the Year Award, honoring his inspirational leadership.

Throughout a career spanning 14 MLB seasons with the Mariners, Orioles, and Diamondbacks, as well as two seasons in Japan with the Orix Buffaloes, Jones remained a formidable presence. Whether hitting the final triple at the old Yankee Stadium or representing the United States in the 2017 World Baseball Classic, his versatility and defensive excellence left a lasting mark on the game.
