In short: Adam Gase reached the pinnacle of football success, helping the Denver Broncos set an NFL record for points scored in 2013. Yet, his subsequent head coaching tenures were marked by historic struggles and a sudden, controversial fall from grace in the public eye.

Gase's path to the NFL began as a student assistant at Michigan State before he followed Nick Saban to LSU in 2000. He spent several years in the college ranks before transitioning to the professional level as a scouting assistant for the Detroit Lions in 2003. His rapid ascent continued in Detroit, where he was promoted to quarterbacks coach in 2007, eventually moving to the San Francisco 49ers in 2008.

His tenure as the Denver Broncos' offensive coordinator (2013–2014) remains his most statistically significant period. Under John Fox, Gase oversaw an offense that propelled the team to Super Bowl XLVIII. However, his transition to head coaching proved volatile. As the Miami Dolphins' first head coach born after the team's 1966 founding, he led them to a 10–6 record in 2016 but finished his three-year stint with a 23–25 regular-season record.

Gase's time with the New York Jets (2019–2020) was defined by historic lows. After a 1–7 start in 2019, the team suffered a franchise-worst 0–13 start in 2020, forcing Gase to relinquish play-calling duties to Dowell Loggains. He finished his Jets tenure with a 9–23 record. Following his 2020 firing, Gase spent several years as an unofficial consultant before returning to the NFL in 2026 as a passing game specialist for the Los Angeles Chargers.

The narrative of Gase's career took a sharp turn in April 2026. Former Jets running back Le'Veon Bell publicly accused Gase of using cocaine in his office on multiple occasions, alleging that Gase even used the code name "white girl" for the drug around players. These allegations have cast a shadow over his professional legacy and the high-pressure environment of his head coaching years.
