After enrolling at the University of Georgia in 2021, he became a pivotal figure in their national championship run, famously catching a go-ahead touchdown pass in the title game. However, his sophomore season was derailed by a persistent ankle injury sustained during a week two matchup against Samford. Limited to just six games that year, he struggled to regain his momentum until he transferred to the University of Texas for the 2023 season, where he recorded 845 receiving yards and 11 touchdowns.
Drafted 52nd overall by the Indianapolis Colts in 2024, Mitchell’s professional start was characterized by both flashes of potential and rookie growing pains. Coaches attributed his early struggles with drops to nerves, but his time in Indianapolis proved short-lived. Following a high-profile error in a 2025 game against the Los Angeles Rams, where he dropped the ball during a premature celebration, he was traded to the New York Jets in November 2025. Shortly after joining the Jets, he secured his first professional touchdown, marking a new chapter in his evolving career.
