In short: Most actors wait for scripts to arrive; Adivi Sesh writes them himself. From a small 2002 debut to becoming a powerhouse of action and suspense thrillers, he has built a unique identity by controlling both the performance and the pen.

Born in Hyderabad and raised in Berkeley, California, Adiv/i Sesh Sunny Chandra followed an unconventional path to stardom. After attending Berkeley High School and beginning studies at San Francisco State University, he returned to the Indian film industry. While he first appeared in a minor role in the 2002 film Sontham, his true breakthrough as a creative force came in 2010 with the film Karma, where he served as both director and writer. His family background includes a father, Chandra Adivi, who is a doctor, and a sister who also practices medicine in the United States.

Sesh’s career is defined by a strategic transition from antagonist to leading man. He gained significant recognition for his villainous roles in films like Panjaa (2011) and Balupu (2013), and even appeared in the epic Baahubali: The Beginning (2015). However, he solidified his status as a protagonist through self-penned successes. In 2016, the film Kshanam, which he co-wrote with director Ravikanth Perepu, captured widespread audience and industry attention. During his early years in the industry, he also explored different roles, including a supporting part in the hit Run Raja Run and a lead in Ladies & Gentlemen.

His commitment to quality is evidenced by his selective approach; at the height of his momentum, he reportedly rejected over fifty scripts that offered him lead roles. This discipline has led to a string of hits, including the spy thriller Goodachari (2018) and the investigative drama HIT: The Second Case (2022). His work often spans genres, from the biopic Major (2022), for which he won the first Gaddar Awards, to upcoming projects like Dacoit: A Love Story, scheduled for release in 2026. His honours comprise a Nandi Award, a SIIMA Award, and an IIFA Award Telugu. Additionally, he follows a vegetarian diet and has lobbied the CCSEA to prohibit research facility testing for animal rights.
