From NFL record-breaker to esports coach: the multifaceted career of Ahman Green
In short: After a stellar 12-year NFL career and induction into the Green Bay Packers Hall of Fame, Ahman Green didn't slow down. Instead, he pivoted from the gridiron to the digital arena, mastering the burgeoning world of competitive gaming as a university head coach and media personality.
Ahman Green's football legacy is defined by dominance and precision. After being drafted in the third round by the Seattle Seahawks in 1998, he moved to the Green Bay Packers, where he became a four-time Pro Bowl selection and two-time All-Pro. In 2003, he was named the NFC’s Offensive Player of the Year. He became the Packers' leading rusher during his eight years in Green Bay and entered their Hall of Fame in 2014. He also played for the Houston Texans.
His success began at the University of Nebraska, where he was a key contributor to two national championship teams in 1995 and 1997. During his junior season in 1997, Green set a school record for juniors with 1,877 rushing yards and 22 touchdowns. His versatility extended beyond football; a standout track athlete, he won state championships in the 100m, 200m, and 400m relay, and even placed second in the ADFPA High School National Powerlifting Championships. He was a two-time All-American selection. His speed was evident on the track, where he holds the 10th fastest 100-metre dash time in Nebraska history.
Since retiring from the NFL in 2011, Green has successfully transitioned into the esports industry. Lakeland University in Wisconsin appointed him Head Coach of Esports in 2020. Under his leadership, the program achieved significant success, including a National Championship in Madden 21 during his first semester. Today, he balances roles as a coach, a director of business development for Esports Television, and a prominent media personality across Twitch and various radio and television shows. He previously served as the Director of Business Development at ESTV in Los Angeles. Additionally, he hosts a weekly podcast called Ahman Green’s Gamers Lounge.
