How a Swedish pianist became a global dance music powerhouse
In short: Starting with piano at age seven, Alessandro Lindblad transitioned from classical roots to electronic dance music at sixteen. Through mentorship from Swedish House Mafia's Sebastian Ingrosso, he rose from a newcomer to a top-tier DJ, eventually signing with Def Jam Recordings and performing for massive crowds worldwide.
Born in Stockholm to Swedish and Italian parents, Alessandro Renato Rodolfo Lindblad began his musical journey on the piano at age seven. His pivot toward electronic dance music occurred at sixteen, eventually leading to a pivotal mentorship with Sebastian Ingrosso of Swedish House Mafia. Ingrosso, who introduced him to DJing and production, has since become a mentor Lindblad describes as a 'big brother.'
The trajectory of his career was marked by rapid ascent. In 2010, he released his first Alesso EP, and by 2011, he was already ranked 70th on DJ Magazine's top 100 DJs list. His production style is noted for its versatility, often alternating between heavy, rave-oriented tracks like 'Clash' and melodically rich compositions such as 'Years' and 'Heroes (We Could Be)'.
By 2013, he reached his highest ranking on the DJ Magazine top 100 list at number 13. His commercial reach expanded through high-profile collaborations with artists like Calvin Harris, Katy Perry, and Tove Lo, and he became only the second EDM producer to sign with Def Jam Recordings in July 2014. His influence extends beyond the stage into pop culture, including a dedicated heist in the video game Payday 2.
Beyond the music, Lindblad has engaged in significant philanthropic work, raising over $50,000 for the charity Chime for Change by October 2014. His ability to bridge different musical landscapes was highlighted by his collaboration with Taiwanese singer Jolin Tsai to discuss connecting East and West in electronic music.
