From cricket captain to cinema: the unexpected journey of Aparshakti Khurana
In short: Before becoming a recognizable face in Indian cinema, Aparshakti Khurana was a law graduate and a decorated youth cricket captain. Discover how a background in sports and a family history of astrology paved the way for his rise in the film industry.
Born on 18 November 1987 in Chandigarh, Aparshakti Khurana’s early life was defined by a diverse set of influences. He grew up in a household where his father, P. Khurrana, practiced astrology and authored works on black magic, while his mother, Poonam, brought a half-Burmese heritage to the family. This unique upbringing coincided with a disciplined academic and athletic pursuit; Khurana studied law in Chandigarh and demonstrated significant leadership skills as the captain of the Haryana U-19 cricket team during his school years.
His transition into the acting profession has been marked by a series of notable supporting roles in major Indian productions. He gained widespread recognition through his work in films such as the 2016 hit Dangal, the 2018 horror-comedy Stree, and the 2019 film Pati Patni Aur Woh. His recent filmography also includes the 2024 sequel Stree 2. Beyond the big screen, he has successfully moved into long-form storytelling, starring in the 2023 drama series Jubilee.
Personal milestones also feature a connection to the arts; Khurana met his wife, Aakymriti Ahuja—an ISB graduate and businesswoman—at a dance class in Chandigarh. The couple married on 7 September 2014. Their family grew in 2021, following an announcement in June of that year, when they welcomed their daughter, Arzoie A Khurana, on 27 August 2021. While he is the younger brother of fellow actor Ayushmann Khurrana, Aparshakti has carved out a distinct identity through his versatile performances.
