Benjamin Keith Davies' ascent began in the youth system of Preston North End, where he was scouted at age 11 while playing for Furness Rovers. His professional breakthrough arrived on 26 January 2013, when a 17-year-old Davies debuted in a 2–2 draw against Coventry City. That match was a whirlwind of extremes: he provided an assist for a 60th-minute equaliser but also received a yellow card. His early impact was significant enough that Preston manager Graham Westley compared his transition to that of George Boyd at Stevenage.
The years that followed were defined by a rigorous series of loan spells designed to forge his defensive capabilities. During his formative years, Davies featured for several clubs within the English football league system, such as Southport, Newport County, Fleetwood Town, Tranmere Rovers, and York City. During his time at Preston, his talent was formally recognised with several honours, including the 2012–13 Scholar of the Year award, the 2017–18 Young Player of the Year, and both the Players' Player of the Year and Sir Tom Finney Player of the Year awards.
In February 2021, Davies reached a career milestone by signing with Liverpool. The deal, reported to involve an initial £500,000 plus £1.1 million in add-ons, also saw Sepp van den Berg move to Preston on loan. However, Davies never made a competitive appearance for the Premier League giants. His subsequent career has seen him move to Sheffield United on loan, a permanent transfer to Rangers in 202<0xC2>2 for a fee potentially reaching £4 million, and various loan spells at Birmingham City and Oxford United, before eventually joining Bolton Wanderers in June 2026.
