Did the House's Amenities Change Based on Your Social Status?
In short: The physical environment of the Bigg Boss house evolved dramatically throughout Season 6. From a luxury, custom-built residence to a rustic, amenity-lacking village, the setting itself became a narrative device, fundamentally altering the contestants' experience and dynamics.
The initial setting for Bigg Boss 6 was a purpose-built house in Lonavala, Maharashtra, designed by art director Sabu Cyril. This structure spanned an area of 15,000 square feet and featured a more subdued aesthetic using shades of red and white, departing from the look of the previous year's house. The house contained amenities such as two separate bedrooms and storage shelves for the housemates' belongings. One bedroom was unique, featuring sunflower beds whose petals served as sleeping surfaces, while the other had conventional beds. Furthermore, the premises included a garden area with a small pool and four white chairs positioned nearby.
A significant structural change occurred with the introduction of the Padosi Ghar, or Secret Village, revealed on Day 41 after Aashka's eviction. This village was situated on grounds adjacent to the main luxury house, occupying only one-fourth of its size. Designed by Leena Chanda, this rustic area lacked modern comforts like air conditioning, microwave ovens, sinks, or a swimming pool. The shift in living conditions was stark; even the furniture changed, with couches being replaced by chatayis for floor comfort.
The narrative tension escalated when, six days after Imam was moved back to the main house, the village was suddenly invaded by masked men. These individuals completely destroyed the village house and abducted all five housemates, attempting to relocate them to the main house via a tunnel. This progression—from luxury to rustic confinement, and then to forced relocation—demonstrates how the architecture served the show's dramatic arc, manipulating the contestants' sense of security and belonging.
The season's timeline also saw notable external promotions occurring during the eviction interview nights, such as Karan Johar, Alia Bhatt, Varun Dhawan, and Sidharth Malhotra appearing on October 13, 2012, to promote *Student of the Year*. This constant interplay between the manufactured domestic drama and the external Bollywood machinery underscores the show's complex reality television structure.
