The mutant who died in her first appearance, only to lead a multiverse mission
In short: In her 1994 debut, Blink was a short-lived casualty of an alien invasion. Yet, through a reality-altering timeline, she was redefined as a powerful leader. Today, she navigates the complex physics of teleportation and the heavy emotional toll of correcting broken realities across the Marvel Multiverse.
Originally introduced in the 1994 'Phalanx Covenant' storyline, the primary-universe version of Blink was an inexperienced mutant who died within a month of her first appearance after being caught in her own unstable teleportation field. However, the character underwent a massive transformation during the 1995 'Age of Apocalypse' storyline. In this alternate reality, she was reimagined as a confident, assertive leader of the Exiles, a group tasked by a cosmic monitor known as the Timebroker to visit parallel worlds and correct divergent timelines. This version of the character was created by writer Scott Lobdell and artist Joe Madureira. Her survival of the timeline's collapse allowed her to eventually join the Jean Grey School for Higher Learning.
This 'Pink Blink' from Earth-295 possesses a much more refined and dangerous power set than her original counterpart. Beyond standard teleportation, she can manifest crystal-like javelins that teleport anything they touch, whether to stun opponents by putting them 'out of phase' or to cut through objects by displacing matter elsewhere. Her abilities are often accompanied by a signature 'blink!' sound, which provided her codename. She typically carries her specialized projectiles in a quiver worn on her back. Additionally, she has proven herself to be a highly capable hand-to-hand combatant.
The character's history is marked by profound instability and complex lineages. While she is a survivor of her timeline's destruction, she has faced manipulation by figures like Selene and has struggled with the emotional weight of her leadership. Interestingly, recent lore suggests her powers may have deep roots; she is potentially a descendant of Frederick Slade, a 19th-century teleporting character from the Clan Akkaba, and the villainous Apocalypse himself. Her genetic heritage is linked to the 19th-century character Frederick Slade. This connection suggests she is a descendant of the villainous Apocalypse.
