In short: Before becoming a dominant force in Japanese wrestling, Callum Newman was a high-level football prospect scouted by Arsenal and West Ham United. He nearly walked away from the ring entirely at 15, only to be convinced by a mentor to pursue a legacy that spans two continents.

Born in Havering, London, in 2002, Newman's path to professional wrestling was unconventional. He began training at age seven under his grandfather, Toni Granzi, a renowned heel of the 1950s and 1960s. However, his trajectory shifted toward football, leading him to the Tottenham Hotspur youth academy. Despite being scouted by both Arsenal and West Ham United, Newman ultimately abandoned the sport due to a lack of passion, returning to wrestling to find his true calling. His career was nearly derailed at age 15 when he planned to quit wrestling for good. It was only after his parents surprised him with a two-day seminar that he met Will Ospreay. Ospreay acted as his guide, persuading him to stay at the London School of Lucha Libre for further instruction. This connection eventually facilitated Newman's move to Japan in 2023 to join New Japan Pro-Wrestling (NJPW) as part of the United Empire stable. Newman's ascent in NJPW was rapid. After becoming the stable's leader in 2025, he secured the IWGP Tag Team Championship and eventually won the 2026 New Japan Cup. He secured the IWGP Heavyweight Championship and the tournament title as the youngest ever by beating Yuya Uemura in the grand finals. His career is now defined by a ruthless, aggressive persona and a multi-year deal with NJPW, while also making appearances for All Elite Wrestling (AEW).
