The teenage prodigy rewriting the record books of German football
In short: Born in Germany but playing for Turkey, Can Uzun has rapidly ascended from youth academies to the Bundesliga. His meteoric rise is defined by a series of age-defying records that have left veteran players and historians stunned, marking him as one of football's most exciting young talents.
Can Uzun's path to professional stardom was marked by prolific scoring at every youth level. After developing in the youth departments of SSV Jahn Regensburg and FC Ingolstadt, he joined 1. FC Nürnberg in 2019. His impact was immediate; during the 2021–22 season, he scored 22 goals in just 19 matches, finishing as the second-highest scorer in the South/Southwest division.
His transition to senior football was equally explosive. At just 17 years and 268 days old, he became 1. FC Nürnberg's youngest professional goalscorer, breaking the previous record held by Christian Wück. Soon after, he eclipsed Olaf Thon's mark as the DFB-Pokal's youngest hat-trick scorer, adding three goals and two assists during a 9–1 win against FC Oberneuland.
Uzun joined Eintracht Frankfurt on a five-year deal in July 2024, marking his entry into the Bundesliga. His debut season in Hessen was transformative for the club, contributing to a 3rd-place finish and Champions League qualification for the 2025–26 season. Despite his German upbringing, Uzun chose to represent the Turkish national team in March 2024, a decision that has seen him rise through the Turkish youth ranks to the senior squad.
The midfielder's versatility and clinical finishing have made him a centerpiece of Frankfurt's attack. Whether playing as a #10 or a striker, his ability to influence games—such as scoring Frankfurt's first goal in a 4–1 victory over Werder Bremen—has solidified his reputation as a generational talent in European football.
