In short: In the high-stakes world of college football, success is often tied to specific programs or eras. Dave Clawson broke that mold by achieving a statistical rarity: leading four separate Division I schools to seasons with at least 10 wins each.

Dave Clawson’s coaching trajectory is defined by an ability to revitalize programs across diverse conferences. His career spans 36 years in college football, including 25 years as a head coach. No other coach has achieved the feat of securing 10 or more victories during one year across four distinct Division I universities, namely Fordham, Richmond, Bowling Green, and Wake Forest. His tenure at Wake Forest University marked his most successful stretch, where he served as Head Coach for 11 years. During this period, he led the Deacons to seven consecutive bowl appearances and an Atlantic Division title in 2021. Notably, under his leadership, the program achieved its first-ever top 10 national ranking in two back-to-back seasons.

Despite the high-level athletic success, Clawson’s programs were also recognized for maintaining academic excellence. Clawson's path to these milestones was not linear. His first head coaching role at Fordham began with an 0–11 season before he eventually led them to a Patriot League title in 2002—their first conference championship since 1988. He later re-energized the University of Richmond program, leading them to consecutive conference titles and playoff appearances between 2005 and 2007. While his stint as offensive coordinator for the Tennessee Volunteers in 2008 was statistically difficult, his broader career reflects a consistent ability to build winning cultures across multiple environments. He previously served as an assistant coach at Buffalo and Villanova. His early career included roles coaching both defensive secondary and running backs. He earned a master's degree in liberal studies from the University at Albany. This academic background now informs his role as an Executive Affiliate.
