From Brazilian youth prospect to Premier League record-breaker
In short: In just a few years, Evanilson has transitioned from a promising talent in Fluminense's academy to a marquee striker in England. His journey through Slovakia, Portugal, and the top flight of English football is a masterclass in navigating the volatile path of professional football.
Born in Fortaleza in 1999, Evanilson's professional ascent began within the Fluminense youth system, which he joined in 2013. His early career was marked by rapid movement, including a brief loan spell in Slovakia with Šamorín during the 2017–18 season. While he initially struggled to secure a permanent spot in the Fluminense first team, his prolific scoring in the under-20 league in 2019 paved the way for a significant move to Porto in September 2020 for €8.8 million.
At Porto, the Brazilian striker found his rhythm. Under the guidance of manager Sérgio Conceição, Evanilson transitioned from the reserve team back into the spotlight, eventually helping the club secure a domestic double in the 2021–22 season. His individual accolades during this period were notable; in January 2022, he earned both the Primeira Liga's Goal of the Month and Forward of the Month honors, highlighted by a stunning backheel goal against Marítimo.
The summer of 2024 marked a major turning point as Evanilson moved to the Premier League to join Bournemouth. The transfer, valued at approximately £40.2 million, represented a club-record expenditure for the English side. Since arriving, he has already made history by scoring in a victory over Manchester City—the first time Bournemouth has ever beaten the reigning champions in any competition. Despite facing setbacks, such as a foot injury in early 2025, his impact on the international stage remains high, having earned his senior Brazil debut in June 2024.
