In short: In 2022, SM Entertainment launched Got the Beat, a powerhouse sub-unit of the project group Girls On Top. By uniting seven seasoned artists from diverse generations of K-pop, the agency created a collective focused on high-intensity dance performances, marking a unique evolution in the industry's approach to talent management.

The formation of Got the Beat represents a strategic consolidation of existing star power. The group comprises seven performers who were already established under the SM Entertainment label: BoA, who began her solo career in 2000, Girls' Generation members Taeyeon and Hyoyeon, Red Velvet's Seulgi and Wendy, and Aespa's Karina and Winter. This assembly brings together artists with varying levels of experience, ranging from BoA's two decades in the industry to the more recent debuts of Aespa members in 2020.

The project was officially unveiled on December 27, 2021, with a clear mandate to prioritize aggressive dance tracks. Their debut single, Step Back, arrived shortly after on January 3, 2022. The track achieved notable commercial success, reaching the fourth position on the Gaon Digital Chart and the fifth spot on the Billboard World Digital Songs Chart. The group's performance debut occurred during a virtual concert event on January 1, 2022, followed by a broadcast appearance on the music program M Countdown. By January 30, they had secured their first industry award on the show Inkigayo.

Beyond their initial success, the group continued to expand their discography. Following their debut year, the agency announced the release of their first extended play, Stamp on It, which was scheduled for January 16, 2023. This project highlights the agency's model of utilizing established sub-units and soloists to create new, temporary configurations. By leveraging the existing fanbases and individual histories of these seven women, SM Entertainment effectively demonstrated a method for revitalizing and cross-pollinating talent within a single corporate ecosystem.
