Why an Australian electronic artist calls her computer her greatest collaborator
In short: For Nina Wilson, the computer is more than a tool; it is a primary instrument and a lifelong partner. Her debut album, I Love My Computer, weaves a sonic tapestry of hyperpop and trance, exploring a deeply personal, autobiographical relationship with the digital world and the internet.
Released on 8 August 2025 under NLV Records, Ninajirachi's debut studio album is the culmination of six years of material. The Australian producer, also known as Nina Wilson, views her entire discography as 'computer music.' The album's themes are rooted in her childhood, specifically her experiences listening to music on an iPod Touch and her intimate connection to technology. In a unique creative vision, she even developed a 'headcanon' where cell towers serve as places of worship for computers.
The production is an eclectic mix of genres, including hyperpop, trance, and complextro. Critics have noted its ability to blend the 'big-tent EDM' styles of artists like Skrillex and Flume with the 'flubbery pop' of PC Music. The album's songwriting is loosely autobiographical, reflecting on growing up in the early 2010s and the influence of online music communities. Some tracks even pay homage to computing history, such as 'CSIRAC,' which references Australia's first digital computer.
The album's success was significant, peaking at number 12 on the ARIA Albums Chart and earning multiple prestigious honors. The 2025 J Awards named it Album of the Year, while it also secured the Australian Music Prize and Best Independent Release at the ARIA Music Awards. The project also received six awards at the 2026 AIR Awards, including Best Independent Electronic Album or EP. Beyond the music, the album's visual identity, shot by Aria Zarzycki, attempted to encapsulate Wilson's life within a single, staged image.
