James Justin's professional journey began at Luton Town, where he progressed through the youth system after joining at age seven. His early years were marked by rapid success, including a 2009 victory in the Aarau Masters with the under-11s. By the 2016–17 season, he had become a vital part of the Luton squad, earning the club's Young Player of the Season award.
His rise through the English leagues was interrupted by significant physical challenges. While establishing himself at Leicester City, Justin suffered an ACL injury in February 2021, which prevented him from participating in the club's 2020–21 FA Cup triumph. Despite returning to the pitch in January 2022, a second ruptured ACL in November 2022 sidelined him for the remainder of the 2022–23 season.
Justin's versatility has been a key asset; though primarily a right-back, he has played as a left-back, central midfielder, and winger. This adaptability helped him secure an immediate return to the Premier League with Leicester in the Championship. His career has also seen him represent England at various youth levels before making his senior debut in June 2022 against Hungary.
Following Leicester's relegation in 2024, Justin moved to Leeds United in August 2025 for a fee involving an £8 million base and up to £2 million in add-ons. His career serves as a testament to professional perseverance, navigating the intense physical demands of top-flight football despite recurring injury setbacks.
