From Brampton to the NFL: the rising trajectory of wide receiver Josh Palmer
In short: Born in Ontario and raised with Jamaican roots, Josh Palmer has navigated a complex path to professional football. From high school standout in Florida to a key playmaker in the NFL, his journey involves overcoming collegiate shifts and significant injuries to secure a spot in the league's elite.
Josh Palmer's ascent began in Brampton, Ontario, where he was recognized as the junior athlete of the year at St. Roch Catholic Secondary School. After demonstrating his talent in Canadian youth leagues, he moved to Fort Lauderdale, Florida, to attend St. Thomas Aquinas High School. His performance there, including a senior season with 32 receptions and eight touchdowns, earned him a reputation as a high-level recruit.
While initially committed to Syracuse, Palmer ultimately chose to play for the Tennessee Volunteers. His collegiate career showed steady progression: he played in all 12 games as a freshman, became a starter as a sophomore, and maintained consistent production through his senior year, despite the season being shortened to nine games due to COVID-19. This collegiate success paved the way for his entry into professional football.
Selected 77th overall in the third round of the 2021 NFL draft by the Los Angeles Chargers, Palmer entered the league with high expectations. His rookie season saw him appear in all 17 games, recording 33 receptions for 353 yards and four touchdowns. Since then, he has faced the physical rigors of the NFL, including a right knee sprain in 2023 and various injuries during his tenure with the Buffalo Bills, where he joined on a three-year deal in March 2025.
Palmer's ability to contribute in high-stakes moments has become a hallmark of his career. Whether recording 106 receiving yards in a single game against the Kansas City Chiefs or catching a game-winning touchdown from Josh Allen for the Buffalo Bills, his career reflects the resilience required to transition from a Canadian standout to a professional NFL wide receiver.
