From Scottish lower leagues to Premier League glory in just two years
In short: In the volatile world of professional football, few trajectories are as meteoric as Justin Devenny's. Within a single season, the midfielder transitioned from the Scottish Championship to scoring decisive penalties in major English trophy finals, establishing himself as a rising star on both club and international stages.
Born in Scotland on 11 October 2003, Justin Devenny's path to the top was forged through the rigorous Scottish youth systems. After developing at Kilmarnock, he spent time with Broomhill and Airdrieonians during the 2021–22 season. His tenure at Airdrie was particularly impactful; he played a vital role in their promotion to the Scottish Championship via the play-offs, notably converting a crucial penalty in the May 2023 final against Hamilton Academical.
A move to Crystal Palace in August 2023 accelerated his ascent. After starting with the under-21s, Devenny made his Premier League debut against Fulham on 9 November 2024. His impact was immediate, scoring against Aston Villa just two weeks later. His 2024–25 campaign was defined by silverware, as he contributed to Palace's FA Cup victory in May and scored the winning penalty in the August 2025 Community Shield against Liverpool.
International recognition followed his club success. Though Scottish by birth, Devenny represents Northern Ireland through his mother. After becoming a fixture in the U21 side in late 2023, he earned his senior call-up in November 2024. He has since become a scoring threat on the international stage, notably finding the net against Luxembourg in September 2025 during World Cup qualification.
By September 2026, Devenny moved to Stoke City on a four-year deal. He made an instant impression in the EFL Championship, netting twice during a 4–0 victory over Charlton Athletic just days after his arrival.
