In short: In October 2016, Karamoko Dembélé made history by debuting for Celtic's under-20 team at just thirteen years old. Playing against athletes up to seven age groups his senior, the English-born winger sparked intense debate over whether fast-tracking such young talent through professional ranks poses physical and mental risks.

Born in South London in 2003 to parents from the Ivory Coast, Dembélé's footballing journey began at age five with Park Villa Boys Club. By age ten, he had joined the Celtic academy. His rapid ascent reached a peak in 2016 when he was invited to participate in technical training with Celtic's first-team squad by manager Brendan Rodgers. He began his training at St Ninian's High School in 2015. Before his first birthday, his family relocated from London to Govan, Scotland.

Dembélé's career has been marked by significant milestones and international complexity. He became the youngest player to represent a Scottish team in European competition when he appeared for Celtic against CFR Cluj in December 2019. His international career has seen him represent both Scotland and England at various youth levels, ultimately earning 10 caps for Scotland and eight for England. In 2017, L'Équipe identified him as one of six exceptional young talents poised to transform the sport. He also secured a Scottish Premiership trophy with Celtic in 2019.

Despite the early hype, his path has faced hurdles, including a fractured ankle in July 2021 that required surgery in October. After nine years at Celtic, he moved to French club Brest in 2022. Most recently, he has played for Blackpool, where his eight goals and 14 assists during the 2023–2024 campaign earned him multiple 'Player of the Season' honors, and he is set to join Queens Park Rangers permanently in 2025. His recovery included returning to action for Celtic B in February 2022. He joined Brest on a four-year contract following his departure from the Scottish club.
