In short: Before becoming Canada's hip-hop ambassador, Jason Drew Harrow was a child prodigy. By age 12, he was already winning rap competitions, and by 14, he found himself performing on stage for Nelson Mandela during the leader's first visit to Toronto following his release from prison.

Born in 1976 in Toronto's Scarborough district, Jason Drew Harrow—known professionally as Kardinal Offishall—has spent decades shaping the Canadian music landscape. His distinctive style, which blends hip-hop with reggae and dancehall influences, helped define the sound of the 2000s. He even popularized the nickname 'T-dot' for Toronto through his hit 'BaKardi Slang'.

His career has been marked by both significant commercial milestones and industry shifts. In 2008, his album 'Not 4 Sale' achieved major international success, with the single 'Dangerous' peaking at number two on the Canadian Hot 100 and number five on the US Billboard Hot 100. That same year, his album debuted at number 40 on the Billboard 200 and number eight on the Canadian Albums Chart.

Beyond the stage, Harrow has transitioned into influential industry roles. After years of independent and major-label work, he joined Universal Music Canada in 2013 as Creative Executive Director of A&R, eventually rising to the position of senior vice-president of A&R by April 2021. He remains an active figure in the industry, with a sixth album, 'Firestarter Vol. 2: Everyday, Sometimes...', scheduled for release on September 25, 2026.

His musical journey is also one of resilience. In 2003, after his label MCA was absorbed by Geffen Records, he was unable to release the planned sequel to his second album. Despite such setbacks, his impact remains visible through his philanthropic work, such as the KARDI Christmas Party charity event, which he has hosted since 2000.
