In short: Kyle Trask's path to the NFL was defined by a grueling cycle of setbacks. From redshirts and foot injuries to becoming a Heisman finalist, his journey illustrates the resilience required to transition from a high school backup to a record-breaking collegiate standout.

Kyle Trask’s collegiate career at the University of Florida was a masterclass in patience and perseverance. After graduating from Manvel High School in 2016, Trask arrived as a three-star recruit and was immediately redshirted. His early years were marked by physical setbacks; he missed the 2017 season entirely due to injury and saw limited action in 2018, where a recurring foot injury cut his season short after just four games. He spent his high school years as a backup to D'Eriq King. His parents chose his name because they attended the Texas A&M stadium of the same name.

The breakthrough arrived in 2019. Stepping into the starting role for the first time since his freshman year of high school, Trask began a historic run. He surpassed the school's single-season passing touchdown record—previously held by Danny Wuerffel in 1996—by throwing 43 touchdowns in 2020. He first started against Tennessee. He also threw for 363 yards against Vanderbilt, which was the most by a Gator since 2010.

During that period, he set a Southeastern Conference milestone by tossing four scores across five straight matches, notably during a standout outing versus the #4 Georgia squad. Despite his collegiate dominance, the professional transition has been complex. Selected 64th overall in the 2021 NFL draft by the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, Trask signed a rookie contract worth $5.54 million. His professional journey since then has involved multiple team changes, including stints with the Buccaneers, the Atlanta Falcons practice squad, and the Carolina Panthers. His story remains a poignant example of the thin margin between collegiate stardom and the volatile nature of professional sports rosters. He debuted in the league in 2022 against the Falcons. He also married a mental health counselor in 2025.
