In short: Directed by AR Jeeva, the 2025 film Lockdown follows Anitha, a young woman whose life takes a harrowing turn after an unexpected pregnancy. As a nationwide COVID-19 lockdown prevents her from accessing medical care, she faces a desperate and dangerous choice involving a deceptive medical professional.

Lockdown is a Tamil-language drama thriller produced by Subaskaran under the Lyca Productions banner. The film stars Anupama Parameswaran as Anitha, a middle-class graduate from Chennai struggling to find employment. The narrative follows her descent into a crisis when she discovers she is ten weeks pregnant following a night of heavy drinking at a party.

The plot's tension is heightened by a real-world element: a nationwide COVID-19 lockdown that prevents Anitha from seeking medical help for over a month. This delay leaves her in a state of restlessness as the pregnancy progresses. Her search for an abortion leads her to a man who previously proposed to her, who agrees to perform the procedure only in exchange for sexual favors.

The film concludes with a dark revelation: the doctor Anitha sought was actually a compounder. Critical reception for the film was mixed, with reviewers from OTTPlay and The Times of India both awarding it two out of five stars. While some critics noted the film's potential to explore women's bodily rights and medical corruption, others found the screenplay confusing and felt the messaging overshadowed the core story.

The production faced several scheduling shifts. Originally intended for a June 2024 release, the film was postponed from December 5, 2025, due to heavy rains from Cyclone Ditwah. It eventually premiered at the 56th International Film Festival of India in Goa on November 23, 2025, before its theatrical release on January 30, 2026.
