In short: Born into footballing royalty, Luca Zidane has spent his career navigating a complex identity. While his father, Zinedine Zidane, is a legend of French football, Luca has recently pivoted his international allegiance, trading his youth French honors for a new chapter representing Algeria.

Luca Zidane’s footballing journey began in 2004 when he entered the Real Madrid youth academy at just six years old. The son of legendary player and manager Zinedine Zidane and dancer Veronique Fernández, Luca is part of a remarkable sporting family; his three brothers—Enzo, Théo, and Elyaz—all developed within the same prestigious academy. While he initially rose through the ranks to play for Real Madrid’s reserve side, Castilla, his professional debut arrived on 19 May 2018, during a 2–2 La Liga match against Villarreal CF.

Despite his French roots and early success with France’s under-17 and under-20 squads, Zidane’s international path took a significant turn in late 2025. Following a FIFA-approved request in September 202<0xC2>5, he officially transitioned his sporting nationality from France to Algeria, a move made possible by his paternal grandparents' heritage. This shift led to his inclusion in Algeria's squad for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations in Morocco and his participation in the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualification campaign.

His club career has been defined by a series of moves across the Spanish leagues. After stints with Racing Santander, Rayo Vallecano, and Eibar, Zidane joined Granada in July 2024. Following a brief period of termination in August 2026, he signed a one-year deal with Leganés. Throughout these transitions, the goalkeeper has maintained a presence in the Spanish second division, consistently testing himself in one of Europe's most competitive environments.
