From Nickelodeon sitcom star to international DJ: the evolving career of Matt Bennett
In short: Most remember him as the quirky Robbie Shapiro on Nickelodeon's Victorious. But since 2022, Matt Bennett has pivoted from scripted comedy to the DJ booth, touring the world with sets dedicated to the very Disney and Nickelodeon hits that defined his early stardom.
Born in Massapequa Park, New York, on November 13, 1991, Matt Bennett's journey into the spotlight began far from the dance floor. After a childhood spent in commercials, he transitioned to television at age 18 with the 2009 film Totally for Teens. His breakout period arrived in the early 2010s, most notably through his role as Robbie Shapiro in the Nickelodeon series Victorious, which ran from 2010 to 2013.
Bennett's filmography during this era was surprisingly diverse. The 2010 mockumentary The Virginity Hit, created by Adam McKay and Will Ferrell of Funny or Die, featured him in a lead role. Bennett described the production as largely unscripted, noting that while 20% was scripted, much of the film was captured through spontaneous pranks and interactions. His filmography also encompasses different styles, with appearances in 2015's Manson Family Vacation, The Stanford Prison Experiment, and Me and Earl and the Dying Girl.
Beyond acting, Bennett has explored music and hosting. In 2013, he hosted the Nerdist YouTube series Nerdy Jobs, and in 2016, he released Terminal Cases, an independent concept album inspired by Robin Williams movies that explored the theme of his parents' divorce. Recently, his career has found a new rhythm. Since 2022, he has toured as a DJ, performing nostalgic sets at venues like House of Blues. What began as 'iParty with DJ Matt Bennett' evolved into the 'Party101' tour, which by 2025 had expanded internationally to include audiences in the UK and Australia.
