This lineage set a high bar from his early days at Don Bosco Preparatory High School, where he achieved All-State honors and led his team to an undefeated state championship season.
His collegiate path was a complex journey of transitions. After an initial stint at the University of Louisville, Simms moved to El Camino College in California, where he led his team to a fourth consecutive league title. He eventually found his way to the University of Tennessee, playing ten games during the 2010 season. However, his time in Tennessee was marked by competition, as he eventually lost the starting role to Tyler Bray following a period of injury-related struggles within the team's receiving corps.
Simms's professional career in the NFL was characterized by the life of an undrafted free agent. Signed by the New York Jets in 2012, he experienced the volatility of roster cuts, practice squad promotions, and contract renegotiations. While he saw action for the Jets and later the Atlanta Falcons, his career also took him to the Alliance of American Football with the Memphis Express in 2019. Today, he has transitioned from the field to coaching, running the 'Simms Complete' private quarterback training camp and podcast.
