The highest-paid non-quarterback in NFL history was born on this day
In short: From a high school running back to an NFL record-breaker, Micah Parsons' rise is defined by explosive versatility and high-stakes drama. His journey from Pennsylvania to the Green Bay Packers involves historic contracts, NCAA violations, and a career-altering trade that shook the league.
Born in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania, on May 26, 1999, Micah Parsons was a versatile standout at Harrisburg High School. While he played varsity basketball, his football profile was diverse; as a senior, he recorded 1,239 rushing yards and 27 rushing touchdowns, tying for ninth in the state. This dual-threat capability eventually led him to Penn State, where head coach James Franklin moved him from defensive end to middle linebacker—a transition that saw Parsons become the first Nittany Lion to lead the team in tackles as a true freshman.
Parsons' path to the NFL was marked by significant hurdles. In 2019, Ohio State agreed to cease recruiting him after NCAA violations were discovered because the school allowed him to take a photo with analyst Kirk Herbstreit on ESPN's College GameDay. Despite these distractions and opting out of the 2020 season due to COVID-19 concerns for his son, Parsons graduated from Penn State in 2021 with a degree in criminology before being drafted by the Dallas Cowboys.
His professional career reached a fever pitch in 2025. Following a contentious contract holdout involving owner Jerry Jones and agent David Mulugheta, Parsons was traded to the Green Bay Packers on August 28, 2025. The move made him the highest-paid non-quarterback in NFL history upon signing a four-year, $188 million extension. Despite a season-ending torn ACL in December 2025, he continued to earn elite accolades, including his third first-team All-Pro selection.
