In short: What began as a personal portfolio project for director Rathna Kumar evolved into a significant Tamil romantic comedy. Inspired by the local musical talents of Royapuram, the film transitioned from a short titled Madhu into a feature-length success that defied typical release delays and captured the essence of North Chennai.

Meyaadha Maan, meaning "The deer that does not graze," is a 2017 Tamil-language romantic comedy directed by Rathna Kumar. The project originated from Kumar's own short film, Madhu, which was part of the Stone Bench Creations anthology Bench Talkies in March 2015. While Kumar initially intended the short for his professional portfolio, producer Karthik Subbaraj encouraged its expansion into a feature film due to its commercial potential.

The film's setting is deeply rooted in the creative culture of North Chennai. Kumar drew inspiration from the musicians, lyricists, and percussionists found in the Royapuram and Kasimedu areas. This influence is reflected in the protagonist, 'Idhayam' Murali, a light music singer. The character's name is a nod to the timid protagonist from the 1991 romantic drama Idhayam.

Production was conducted with significant discretion; the project was only revealed to the media after 90% of the filming was complete. The film's release was nearly disrupted by a strike by the Tamil Film Producers Council regarding local body taxes, which delayed several Diwali releases. However, the producers moved the release to 18 October 2017 to capture the festival audience. The film became a sleeper hit, expanding from its initial 100-screen opening to include audiences in Malaysia and Singapore.

The film's success was bolstered by its soundtrack, composed by Santhosh Narayanan. The music was released in stages throughout 2017, including singles for Raksha Bandhan and Ganesh Chathurthi. The film also marked the screen debuts of lead actors Priya Bhavani Shankar and Indhuja Ravichandran.
