In short: In this denpa-inspired visual novel, you aren't just playing a game; you are managing a breakdown. You must navigate the grueling demands of livestreaming, balancing a girl's mental stability against the relentless pursuit of a million followers in a world that rewards attention at any cost.

Developed by Xemono and published by WSS Playground, Needy Streamer Overload casts the player as a manager for Ame, a mentally ill girl who adopts the persona 'OMGkawaiiAngel' to satisfy her need for attention. The game utilizes a Windows 95-esque interface where players monitor her stress, affection, and 'mental darkness' stats. To succeed, you must manage her daily tasks—ranging from sleeping to abusing illicit drugs—while moderating a live chat during evening streams to hit a one-month goal of one million followers.

The game is noted for its sharp satire of modern internet culture and toxic relationships. Critics have praised its precision in depicting internet addiction and the 'menhera' subculture, while some noted the limited agency of the player character. It features over 140,000 words of Japanese dialogue and originally offered 22 different endings, with more added during its 2022 Nintendo Switch release. The aesthetic draws heavily from vaporwave, retro pixel art, and 1990s-era bishōjo games.

The project has been marred by significant real-world controversy. In 2025, developer Xemono revealed that WSS Playground suspended royalty payments, leading to legal action and the termination of their contract. The developer alleged power harassment and withheld wages, while the publisher disputed these claims. These conflicts resulted in the creator, Nyalra, withdrawing from anime promotion and reporting a diagnosis of adjustment disorder and depression due to the dispute. Despite this, the game has sold over three million units as of November 2025.
