In short: Born in Denmark, Oliver Sonne’s career took an unexpected turn through his maternal heritage. After being scouted via a mobile app, he rose from Danish academies to the international stage, eventually representing Peru in major competitions and securing a high-profile move to the English Championship.

Oliver Sonne Christensen's journey is a testament to the modern, interconnected world of professional sports. Born on 10 November 2000, the Danish-born right-back began his footballing education at Ejby IF Fodbold. His ascent was accelerated by digital scouting; after being spotted on the Tonsser app, he earned trials with major clubs like Marseille and Copenhagen. Although he ultimately chose to sign an 18-month contract with Copenhagen in February 2018, his path was far from linear.

Sonne's career gained significant momentum in Denmark. After a stint at HB Køge, where he made 34 appearances over two years, he joined Silkeborg in May 2021. His time there was marked by major milestones, including being named to the Superliga Team of the Month in both September and October 2023. His most defining moment for the club came on 9 May 2024, when he scored the decisive goal in the 38th minute of the Danish Cup final, securing Silkeborg's second Danish Cup title.

The most striking aspect of Sonne's career is his international allegiance. Despite his Danish upbringing, he is eligible for Peru through his maternal grandmother. Following discussions with the Peruvian Football Federation and manager Juan Reynoso Guzmán around May 2023, Sonne began the process of obtaining Peruvian citizenship. He made his international debut for Peru against Nicaragua on 22 March 2024 and has since competed in the 2024 Copa América and FIFA World Cup qualifiers. In 2025, he moved to the English Championship side Burnley on a four-and-a-half-year deal, later joining Sparta Prague on loan in early 2026.
