In short: In just a few years, this Danish striker has moved through the elite leagues of Austria, Italy, and England. But behind the massive transfer fees and record-breaking scoring streaks lies a volatile journey of sudden brilliance and grueling droughts.

Born in Copenhagen in February 2003, Rasmus Højlund’s ascent through the footballing ranks was remarkably rapid. After developing in the youth systems of Hørsholm-Usserød, Brøndby, and Copenhagen, he made his professional debut at just 17 years old in October 2020. His path through Europe saw him move to Sturm Graz in early 2022 for €1.8 million, followed by a €17 million move to Atalanta in August 2022, where he eventually secured a starting role.

His arrival at Manchester United in 2023, marked by an initial £64 million fee, brought both unprecedented records and intense scrutiny. During a prolific February 2024, he became the first Dane to win the Premier League Player of the Month, setting a new record as the youngest player to score in six straight Premier League matches. He even helped the club secure the FA Cup in May 2024, appearing as a substitute in their 2–1 victory over Manchester City.

However, the striker's career has also been defined by significant periods of struggle. Following his initial success, he endured a 16-match scoring drought in the Premier League that lasted until late 2024. This period of poor form, coupled with a disappointing European final performance, led to him being placed on United's transfer list. By September 2025, he moved to Napoli on a loan deal, eventually triggering a permanent transfer worth approximately £38 million after helping the Italian club secure Champions League qualification in May 2026.
