From a small Danish village to the heights of Serie A
In short: Born in Hjerk, Gustav Isaksen’s journey from a local academy to professional football has been defined by rapid progression. After securing a professional contract at just eighteen, the winger has climbed from the Danish Superliga to Italy's top flight, proving his clinical edge on both domestic and international stages.
Gustav Isaksen’s professional ascent began in earnest in May 2019, when he signed a five-year contract with FC Midtjylland. His introduction to top-flight football came shortly after, making his Danish Superliga debut on 25 August 2019 as a substitute in a 2–0 victory against SønderjyskE. By the end of that debut season, Isaksen had made 15 appearances, contributing to a Superliga title for Midtjylland.
The winger’s development was marked by significant milestones in European and international competition. He made his first European appearance in the UEFA Champions League on 25 November 2020, appearing against Ajax. His goal-scoring instincts were further validated on 11 February 2021, when he scored a winner for Midtjylland in a Danish Cup quarter-final against OB. His domestic dominance peaked during the 2022–23 season, where he secured the Superliga Golden Boot with 18 goals.
Isaksen's consistent performance led to a high-profile move to Italy on 8 August 2023, when he signed with Serie A club Lazio. He made an immediate impact in Italy, recording both a goal and an assist in a 3–1 victory over Frosinone on 29 December 2023. His international career has followed a similar trajectory; after debuting for the Denmark under-21 side in September 2020, he earned his first senior cap for the Denmark national team on 27 March 2024 against the Faroe Islands. He later found the net for his country in a 2–2 draw against Switzerland in October 2024.
