In short: Pablo Zabaleta arrived in Manchester just one day before a massive ownership shift changed the club forever. Known for his relentless determination and passion, the Argentine defender transitioned from a versatile midfielder to a decorated Premier League champion and a legendary figure at the Etihad Stadium.

Born in Buenos Aires and raised in Arrecifes, Zabaleta's professional journey began at San Lorenzo in 2002. Following a triumphant period at Espanyol, highlighted by his 2005–06 Copa del Rey victory, he joined Manchester City during the summer of 2008. His arrival coincided with a pivotal moment in football history: he joined the club just a day before the Abu Dhabi United Group, led by Sheikh Mansour, purchased Manchester City, triggering a period of unprecedented investment.

During his nine seasons at City, Zabaleta made 333 appearances and secured every major English honour, including the FA Cup in 2011 and Premier League titles in 2012 and 2014. His 2012–13 campaign was particularly standout; he was the only City player named to the Premier League PFA Team of the Year and was voted the club's Player of the Year.

On the international stage, Zabaleta has been a fixture for Argentina since 2005. He was a key member of the gold medal-winning 2008 Olympic squad and was part of the team that reached the 2014 FIFA World Cup final. Following his retirement from professional play in October 2020, he transitioned into coaching, serving as an assistant manager for Albania's national team starting in January 2023.

Zabaleta's legacy is cemented by his reputation for a 'never-say-die' attitude. Despite his 2017 move to West Ham United, he achieved a historic milestone as the inaugural Argentine and third South American to play 300 Premier League matches.
