In short: After being released by Huddersfield Town without a single first-team appearance, Paul Mullin's career seemed uncertain. Yet, the Merseyside-born forward would eventually become a prolific goalscorer, securing multiple promotions and setting historic scoring records across the English football pyramid.

Mullin's journey through professional football is defined by resilience. After being released by Huddersfield Town at the end of the 2013–14 season, he joined Morecambe in August 2014. It was there he scored his first professional goal, a winning strike against Newport County. This momentum eventually led him to Cambridge United, where he achieved a historic milestone. During the 2020–21 campaign, he scored 25 league goals, surpassing the previous single-season scoring record held by David Crown for the club.

His move to Wrexham in July 2021 marked a transformative era. In his debut National League season, Mullin secured the Golden Boot and Player of the Season awards, scoring 32 goals in all competitions. He continued this dominance in the 2022–23 season, netting 38 league goals to help Wrexham clinch the National League title. His clinical finishing also shone in the FA Cup, where he won the Golden Ball award after finishing as the competition's top scorer with 9 goals.

However, the physical toll of professional football has presented significant challenges. A violent mid-air collision during a pre-season tour in July 2023 left Mullin with broken ribs and a punctured lung, forcing him to miss the start of the season. Later, spinal surgery in June 2025 was required to address long-term back and hamstring issues. Despite these setbacks, Mullin has remained a significant figure in English football, moving through various clubs including Swindon Town, Tranmere Rovers, and eventually Rotherham United.
