From a million-dollar NIL deal to the NFL's seventh round
In short: In the high-stakes world of modern football, Quinn Ewers has lived through every possible trajectory. He was a record-breaking recruit and a pioneer for athlete branding, yet his path to the professional ranks was far from a straight line to stardom.
Born in San Antonio in 2003, Quinn Ewers entered the football landscape as a generational talent. During his high school years at Southlake Carroll, his statistical dominance was immense; as a sophomore, he threw for nearly 4,000 yards and 45 touchdowns with only three interceptions. This performance earned him a perfect 1.000 247Sports composite rating, a feat not seen at the University of Texas since the era of Vince Young.
Ewers' career was defined by significant transitions and historic milestones. After committing to Texas in August 2020, he decommitted in October to join the Ohio State Buckeyes. While at Ohio State, he made his collegiate debut in November 2021. He eventually transferred back to the Longhorns, where he became a standout performer, setting the Big 12 Conference record for passing yards in a single championship game and earning MVP honors.
Beyond the field, Ewers made history in the business of sports. He became the first amateur athlete to secure a name, image, and likeness (NIL) agreement valued at more than $1 million through GTSM Sports Marketing. Despite this early commercial success, his entry into the NFL was a lesson in perseverance. Selected 231st overall in the seventh round of the 2025 draft by the Miami Dolphins, he began his professional career as a third-string emergency player.
His professional journey saw him rise from the inactive list to the starting role for the Dolphins following injuries to Tua Tagovailoa. After a stint in Miami, his career took another turn when he was traded to the Jacksonville Jaguars in August 2026 in exchange for a sixth-round pick in 2028.
