In short: In 1949, a group of Moroccan intellectuals and resistance fighters met in a Casablanca café to found a club. They didn't just create a football team; they built a symbol of national identity that would eventually challenge the world's greatest giants.

Raja Club Athletic, known as Raja Casablanca, was born from the Moroccan resistance. Founded on 20 March 1949 in the Derb Sultan district, the club's origins lie in meetings held at the Al Watan café. Key figures among the creators were the ex-prime minister Mohamed Maâti Bouabid and Mahjoub Ben Seddik, who led the Moroccan Workers' Union initially. To bypass French colonial bans on Moroccan presidents, the club initially appointed Ben Abadji Hejji, an Algerian-born individual with French nationality, to lead the chair.

The club's history is defined by periods of unprecedented dominance and intense local rivalry. During the late 1980s and 1990s, Raja emerged as a powerhouse, winning six consecutive league titles between 1995 and 2001. This era featured legendary players such as Mustapha Moustawdaa and Abdellatif Jrindou. The club also maintains a fierce rivalry in the Casablanca Derby against Wydad AC and the Classico against AS FAR, standing as one of only three clubs in the Botola Pro that has never been relegated.

Raja's greatest international achievement came in 2013 at the FIFA Club World Cup. They navigated a difficult path, defeating Auckland City, Monterrey, and Atlético Mineiro to reach the final. Although they lost 2–0 to Bayern Munich, the performance earned them a royal decoration from King Mohammed VI. Even with recent shifts in management and economic instability, the 'Green Eagles' stay vital to African football, as CAF named them the 3rd greatest African club during the 20th century.
