The teenage prodigy who shattered Portuguese football records before age 17
In short: At just 15 years old, Rodrigo Mora became the youngest professional debutant in Portuguese history. From the youth academies of Porto to a massive move to Roma, his meteoric rise through the ranks of European football is a masterclass in precocious talent and rapid development.
Born in Matosinhos in 2007, Rodrigo Mora’s ascent was remarkably swift. After joining Porto’s academy in 2016 at age nine, he bypassed the traditional slow burn of youth development. By January 2023, he was making his professional debut for Porto B at just 15 years, 8 months, and 10 days old, setting a new record for the youngest debutant in the nation's history.
His 2023–24 season was defined by breaking existing benchmarks. While playing in Liga Portugal 2, he briefly became the youngest player to score in the division, a record held for only two months before being eclipsed by teammate Anhá Candé. His prowess extended to the continental stage, where he finished as the joint top scorer in the UEFA Youth League and led Portugal to the runners-up spot at the 2024 European Under-17 Championship.
The 2024–25 campaign cemented his status as a global prospect. After being promoted to Porto's first team, he achieved several milestones, including becoming the second youngest player to score five goals in the Primeira Liga. By the end of that season, his 10 goals placed him as the most prolific U-20 scorer across Europe's seven top leagues. Following a period of intense transfer speculation involving a €63 million rejected offer from Al-Ittihad, Mora moved to the Italian side Roma in August 2026 for a guaranteed €25 million fee.
