In short: Saqib Saleem didn't set out to be a movie star; he was a lifelong cricketer from Delhi. Despite his father’s wish for him to pursue an MBA in the family restaurant business, Saleem moved to Mumbai to chase a different dream—one that began with modeling and ended with a Filmfare nomination.

Born in 1988 into a family of restaurateurs, Saqib Saleem faced a clear path toward a stable life in Delhi. His father, Saleem Qureshi, operated a chain of 10 restaurants called Saleem's. While Saqib briefly assisted with the business during college, he found it unfulfilling. Instead, he pursued cricket for Delhi and Jammu & Kashmir before making the pivotal move to Mumbai against his father's preference for him to earn a Master of Business Administration degree.

His transition into stardom was an exercise in persistence. After moving to Mumbai, Saleem worked as a model and appeared in advertisements for major brands like Pepsi, Lays, and KFC. His interest shifted toward acting after meeting fashion designer Varun Bahl, who helped him secure an audition with Yash Raj Films (YRF). The process was grueling; it took eight months of auditions before he signed a two-film deal with Y-Films, a subsidiary of YRF.

Saleem made his debut in 2011 with the romantic comedy Mujhse Fraaandship Karoge. The film, which explored social networking on Facebook, was a critical success and earned him a Filmfare Award nomination for Best Male Debut. He followed this with Mere Dad Ki Maruti in 2012 and took on more complex roles, including playing a closeted homosexual man in the 2013 anthology Bombay Talkies directed by Karan Johar.

Beyond the screen, Saleem remains connected to his roots as an athlete, competing in the Celebrity Cricket League as a member of the "Mumbai Heroes." He has also expanded into digital media with roles in web series like Rangbaaz and Crackdown, balancing his cinematic career with charitable work and endorsements.
