In short: From kicking balls on a family trip in Turkmenistan to the bright lights of the UEFA Champions League, Sardar Azmoun's rise was meteoric. After attracting interest from giants like Arsenal and Barcelona, he became one of Iran's most decorated football exports, breaking records across Russia and Europe.

Born on 1 January 1995, Sardar Azmoun's professional journey began in earnest when he moved to Russia at just 17 years old. Joining Rubin Kazan in 2013, he became Iran's youngest Legionnaire and the first Iranian player to compete in the Russian Premier League. His talent was immediately evident; by the age of 19, he had already made his debut for the Iran national team and was attracting significant interest from English Premier League clubs like Arsenal, who reportedly made a £2 million offer for him in 2014.

Azmoun's career is defined by a series of high-stakes moves and record-breaking performances. After a successful loan spell with FC Rostov, where he helped the club secure a Champions League playoff spot, he moved to Zenit St. Petersburg in 2019. During his time with Zenit, he became the most prolific Iranian goalscorer in the UEFA Champions League, surpassing legends like Mehdi Mahdavikia and Ali Daei with four goals in the competition.

His dominance in Russia was underscored by his ability to secure titles and individual accolades. He was a key part of Zenit's championship runs, including a 2019–20 title and a third consecutive title secured in May 2021. That same season, he was voted the Russian Premier League Player of the Season. Following a stint in the Bundesliga with Bayer Leverkusen, Azmoun moved to Serie A with Roma in 2023, before eventually joining Shabab Al Ahli in the UAE Pro League in July 2024.
