From tentative titles to Diwali releases: the making of the film Scene
In short: Before it was known as Scene, this ambitious Tamil action comedy was simply Suriya 47. Spanning multiple cities and high-stakes production, the project marks a significant milestone for director Jithu Madhavan and a major debut for several key creative talents in the Tamil film industry.
The production of Scene, an upcoming Tamil-language action comedy, represents a significant moment for director Jithu Madhavan, marking his debut in Tamil cinema. Originally announced in December 2025 under the working title Suriya 47—referencing actor Suriya's 47th leading role—the project was the inaugural production for Zhagaram Studios, a new company established by Suriya and Jyothika alongside 2D Entertainment. The film's development began in earnest in August 2025, following the completion of Madhavan's previous film, Karuppu (2026).
Principal photography was a multi-location endeavor, primarily centered in Chennai and Kerala, with much of the work expected to occur in Kochi. The shoot officially commenced in December 2025 following a muhurat puja in Chennai on 7 December 2025. While much of the filming took place in Kerala, Nazriya Nazim's portions included an action sequence choreographed by Chetan D'Souza at a set in VGN Cosmos, Avadi. The production wrapped on 16 July 2026, after an intensive period of filming that saw Nazriya Nazim join the cast in March 2026.
The film's creative team features several notable collaborations, including composer Sushin Shyam, who makes his Tamil debut here. This project marks his third collaboration with Madhavan, following their work on Romancham (2023) and Aavesham (2024). The film's budget is reported to be approximately ₹22 crore (US$2.3 million), a figure that excludes Suriya's remuneration. Scheduled for a theatrical release on 6 November 2026 to coincide with Diwali, the film is set to be Suriya's third release of that year, following Karuppu and Vishwanath & Sons.
