From Thums Up ads to Telugu stardom: the rise of Sharwanand
In short: Before he was a leading man in Telugu cinema, Myneni Sharwanand was a face in a popular soda advertisement. From his early training in Mumbai to navigating the highs of blockbusters and the lows of box office flops, his journey is a study in cinematic persistence.
Born in Vijayawada in 1984, Sharwanand's path to the screen began with a notable appearance in a Thums Up advertisement alongside Chiranjeevi. His formal acting training took place at the age of 17 at the Kishore Namit Kapoor Acting Institute in Mumbai. Before finding solo stardom, he spent his early career in supporting roles in films such as Shankar Dada M.B.B.S. and Sankranthi, sharing the screen with established stars like Venkatesh. His academic foundation was laid at The Hyderabad Public School, Begumpet, where he attended classes with actors Ram Charan and Rana Daggubati. He later earned a B.Com from Wesley Degree College in Secunderabad.
His ascent to leading man status was marked by several critical milestones. While he achieved early recognition in Tamil cinema with the film Engeyum Eppothum in 2011, his commercial breakthrough in the Telugu industry arrived in 2014 with the blockbuster Run Raja Run. In 2015, the Nandi Special Jury Award was bestowed upon Malli Malli Idi Rani Roju, marking another era of critical success. His filmography includes notable works such as the cult classic Prasthanam and the hit Express Raja. He also gained recognition for his performance in the 2006 film Amma Cheppindi.
The actor's career has been a landscape of varying fortunes. While films like Sathamanam Bhavati achieved significant box office success, collecting nearly 50 crores, other ventures like Maha Samudram faced negative reviews and failed commercially. Beyond acting, he expanded into production in 2012 with the film Ko Ante Koti. His personal life also saw a major milestone on 3 June 2023, when he married Rakshita Reddy in Jaipur. The actor's family roots trace back to Edlalanka, near Avanigadda. He is also the grandson of Myneni Hariprasada Rao.
