In short: In 1988, a 17-year-old model accepted a job in Japan, unaware it was the prelude to a decades-long television reign. From soap opera controversies to launching a jewelry line, explore the enduring career of Sharon Case.

Sharon Case’s journey to daytime stardom began far from the soundstages of Los Angeles. After a childhood devoted to ballet and jazz in California, Case transitioned into modeling at age 17. A chance encounter with a scout in 1988 led to a five-month stint in Japan, a period that preceded her move into the dramatic arts and musical theater roles in productions like Grease and The Nutcracker.

Her television career ignited in November 1989 with the role of Dawn Winthrop on General Hospital. Following stints on As the World Turns and Valley of the Dolls, Case secured the role of Sharon Newman on The Young and the Restless in August 1994. Though she initially expected to stay for only six months, she became a cornerstone of the series, winning a Daytime Emmy Award for Outstanding Supporting Actress in 1999.

The longevity of her character, however, has not been without friction. Since 2011, Case has navigated controversial storylines, including a widely criticized romantic pairing with Victor Newman that cast members described as an 'inside joke.' While some critics, like writer Jillian Bowe, argued that certain writing choices 'assassinated' the character, Case has used the platform to tackle complex social issues, ranging from infidelity to bipolar disorder.

Beyond the screen, Case has expanded her brand into entrepreneurship. In 2010, alongside stylist Elif Inanc, she launched 'Pomp,' a signature jewelry line featured on the QVC Network. The collection, which debuted with 20 designs priced between $20 and $40, was designed to offer fans an affordable way to embrace 'star-quality' fashion.
