The evolution of a wrestler from bubbly girl-next-door to brooding antagonist
In short: In professional wrestling, character arcs are built on dramatic shifts in persona. Skye Blue’s career trajectory serves as a masterclass in this transformation, moving from an energetic, good-natured debutant to a dark, aggressive figure defined by mist, makeup, and high-stakes alliances.
Skylar Dolecki began her professional journey in 2017 on the independent circuit in Illinois. Early in her career, including her time with All Elite Wrestling (AEW), she was characterized as a 'bubbly, energetic, good-natured girl-next-door.' This persona drew frequent comparisons to established stars like Bayley and Roxanne Perez during their respective developmental runs.
The turning point occurred on September 23, 2023, during an AEW Collision episode. After being sprayed with black mist by Julia Hart, Blue’s appearance and demeanor underwent a gradual, deliberate shift. She began adopting heavy black eye makeup and a much more aggressive in-ring style. This narrative arc culminated in December 2023 when she officially turned 'heel' (an antagonist), aligning with Hart to form the stable 'Triangle of Madness.'
Blue’s career is marked by significant milestones across multiple promotions. She held the AAW Women's Championship and the Warrior Wrestling Women's Championship before signing full-time with AEW in April 2021. Her international reach expanded further in July 2026, when she debuted for World Wonder Ring Stardom in Japan. Alongside Hart and Thekla, she captured the Artist of Stardom Championship, solidifying her status as a versatile performer capable of navigating both high-energy heroics and brooding villainy.
Despite a significant injury—a broken ankle suffered during a July 20, 2024, match against Hikaru Shida—Blue returned to the ring in May 2025. Her trajectory illustrates how wrestling utilizes 'storylines' to reinvent athletes, allowing them to explore different archetypes while maintaining their professional standing.
